Rudolf Steiner College was founded in order to meet the ongoing need for suitably prepared teachers for WA Steiner/Waldorf schools and to provide opportunities for interested individuals to explore life questions through study and the Arts.
The College is managed and administered by a Council of experienced Steiner School Teachers, Adult Educators and Artists. Rudolf Steiner College was incorporated as a not-for-profit Association in 2006 with the aim to provide:
- An introduction to Anthroposophy and Foundation Studies Certificate Course,
- Steiner/Waldorf Education Certificate and Diploma Courses,
- Professional Development Programs for Teachers,
- Insights into Steiner/Waldorf Education for Parents.
The Role of the Arts in Rudolf Steiner College
Approximately half of the contact time in all Courses is involvement in artistic practice. The arts are used as a tool of transformation, gently leading the student to unfold his/her own creative capacity. It is the exposure to the creative process that is paramount, which is why no particular skill in any medium is required. Students would typically encounter the following arts, although not all art forms are included in all courses:-
Sculpture – clay work to experience form
Eurythmy – movement exercises making speech and musical tones visible
Storytelling and Drama – an exploration of the human condition
Painting – an experience of the soul moods through colour
Drawing – observe and draw the creative forces of the plant world
Choral singing and recorder playing – in teacher training courses
The following Courses commence in 2012
- Foundation Studies in Anthroposophy
- Steiner Education Certificate – The Curriculum Journey
- Rudolf Steiner Early Childhood Education Certificate
- Diploma of Steiner Education
The Diploma of Steiner Education is open for application. Students usually take 3 – 4 years to complete the full programme. The Diploma has four components.
- Foundation Studies Certificate or equivalent
- Certificate in Steiner Education or Rudolf Steiner Early Childhood Education
- Assessment tasks,
- Teaching practicum in a recognised Steiner/Waldorf School.
